Curriculum Online
Sporptlan
Ltd is a DfES Registered Retailer for
Curriculum Online.
What is Curriculum Online?
Curriculum Online (COL) is the next step in the
Government's sequence of investment in ICT for schools, building on 4
years of the ICT in Schools Programme (formerly known as the National
Grid for Learning).
The DfES says “The vision of Curriculum Online is one of online access
to a wide range of digital learning materials, easily accessible to teachers
which they can use to support their teaching across the curriculum.”
The programme was announced in December 2001 when the Prime Minister pledged
£50 million in the first year of operation for schools to buy Curriculum
Online resources. The COL portal will offer a database of certified resources,
searchable by Key Stage, subject and topic.
When?
The DfES is releasing the funds, in the form of
eLearning Credits (eLCs), to schools with effect from Wednesday 7th November
2002. The COL Portal is not yet live but schools are free to make purchasing
decisions on the basis of information provided by COL Registered Retailers.
How?
The eLCs are simply a means of funding. You place an order for software
in your normal way, either in writing, or by fax or phone. Please be sure
to mention that you wish to use eLCs when you place your order.
The DfES is distributing eLCs to all maintained schools, non-maintained
special schools and pupil referral units in England. The first £30 million
of eLCs will cover the period from September 2002 to March 2003; the next
£20 million will be available from April 2003. This funding is in addition
to schools' existing NGfL Standards Fund money.
