warm ups for gymnastics

Warm ups for gymnastics need to be Dynamic, and not static, this will help get the participants ready for the lesson ahead, as health & safety is key

I believe that working from either head to toe ( top to bottom) or vice versa is good. CONSISTENCY is always important. Create a warm up routine that stays the same week after week. Ie. Running to get the athletes heart rate up. I have them do a butterfly stretch with 2 variations, moving to rolling the ankles to a pike stretch with 2 variations and then straddle with 4 variations then wrists, then lunges and splits and then bridges and then neck rolls.

Put some fun fast music on and get the gymnasts moving about and dancing aerobics style. Then use a slower tune and stretch from head to toe. Many children find stretching tedious so the music makes it much more fun!
